What does fear do to us?
What does fear do to us? The consequences of being fear-based or operating from fear are extremely varied and insidious. More..

Fear and Separation

Here’s the bottom line on fear and separation. Fear encourages separation. To some extent separation may encourage fear. However it can be very subtle and the ego is quite clever at making separation look like joining. More..

Universal Truth Related to Use of Fear?

I can’t pretend to know what is really a universal truth but based on my personal, social, and professional experience here’s one that has to be awful close if not “right on” in terms of being a universal truth. More..

Disappointment
Disappointment and how we use it fascinates me. Many of us often mention disappointment. We talk about being disappointed in our selves, others, and various past outcomes. Disappointment doesn’t come up nearly as often as other fear-based emotions in sessions with clients. When it does come up, it’s usually not being addressed directly and is only mentioned as an aside. More..

Defining the Alternative to Fear
It is often difficult to find a word to represent the opposite of fear. The obvious choice for many people is love. However, I’ve met several people who are uncomfortable with that and I can understand why. There are some words that have many different meanings, perceptions, or baggage attached to them, and love is certainly one of them. . More..

Undoing Fear
Having established that separation/fear is the cause of our unhappiness, limitations, angst, anger, loneliness, guilt, sadness, frustration, anxiety, relationship problems, and several other negative manifestations in our life, the logical question is, “What can I do about it?” I think it’s unfortunate that we tend to think that we have to battle or fight fear. This strengthens it rather than dissipating it. Fighting it psychologically establishes it as a solid negative entity that seems to work against us. More..

Who Are You?
One of the most amazing things to realize is that we are not who we think we are. We have adopted and made up so many stories about who we are that we have lost sight of the truth of who we are. It is more accurate to call these stories lies. I tend to believe that we enter this world in a very pure state. However, soon we learn language which opens the door to hearing who others think we are or who we should be but aren’t. . More..

Where's The Joy?

Consider this for a minute. Where do you really look for happiness? How would you finish the statement? “I'll be happy when -----”. Finish it several times and even write your answers down. More..

Love Or Fear?
I like to simplify things so my limited mind can keep track of them and I find that looking at all emotions, feelings, and states of being as falling into two camps, love or fear, helps me see more quickly and accurately what is really going on in my mind. I also have a strong suspicion that this paradigm reflects reality. More..

Beliefs, Emotions, And Health
Most of us have adopted unconscious and unexamined beliefs that we need fear, frustration or other negative feelings to help take care of and control ourselves. It doesn’t appear that we have a choice because we don’t think that we are “choosing” the fear, anger, etc. It appears to come unbidden because it happens so quickly and easily but the fact is that it only comes because we have a belief that it is appropriate and even helpful. More..

Your Choice: Being Judgmental or Good Health
Work in many fields is showing that health is dramatically effected by factors beyond the physical. Our state of mind can have dramatic impact on our health – negatively or positively. It also has an impact on the effectiveness of the dietary, herbal, and physical regimens that we follow More..

Giving and Receiving
Have you ever given a gift to or done something for someone and then felt very upset because they didn't respond appropriately in your eyes? Maybe they forgot to thank you. Maybe they never reciprocated after you had done several things for them. Maybe they didn't take care of whatever you gave to them as well as you would have done. More..

Whose Voice Is That?
What if you discovered that someone had invented a way to program thoughts into your brain and have you believe that they were your own thoughts? What if most of your negative self-defeating and limiting thoughts were not even your thoughts? What if most of the fearful, angry, judgmental, sad, guilty, and depressing thoughts were put there by someone else with access to your brain? What if it was done so subtly or cleverly that you took complete ownership and would think it absurd to even consider the possibility that they weren't your own thoughts? More..

The Willingness and Courage to Heal
Do we really have the willingness and courage to heal? I mean “REALLY”! I think we might get a better look at the true answer when we ask, “Am I willing to change?” What are we willing to change to support our own healing? Usually in my experience we first have to change our beliefs, perceptions, stories, mental habits and priorities. The old saying that “Form follows thought.” may not be anywhere more evident than in healing. More..

The Presence
Very uncharacteristically, I woke early and could feel the dawn approaching even though there was only blackness outside the window. Laurie, my wife, was still sound asleep and there was no sound from the other couple who had rented the Colorado Rocky Mountain cabin with us for the weekend. Since I could not sleep, I decided that it might be a good opportunity to take some wildlife pictures as dawn broke. Quietly I dressed, found my camera and slipped outside into the brisk pine scented mountain air. More..

Divine Paradox
As long as there is a me,
I’ll never know you.
As long as there is a you,
I’ll never know me. More..

The Deer and the Lion (Following Our Guidance)
Recently while in Montana near Glacier National Park while several forest fires were burning all around the area I saw a doe and a fawn in a field close to me. I stopped to observe and then noticed that a mountain lion was in the grass right in front of them. The lion had obviously encountered the fires and had black smudges on its body. It wasn’t limping but it was moving slowly. The doe and her trailing fawn walked up to within 10 feet of it and kept following it – obviously very curious about it. The mountain lion kept looking back at them as if to say, “Go away and leave me alone!” I know from living in the mountains and observing deer almost daily that mountain lions are their main predator and that normally they are very wary of them. I also know that does are very protective of their fawns and do everything possible to avoid exposing them to danger. More..

Can You Trust Your Intuition?
Many clients and friends have shared comments and questions pertaining to the trustworthiness of their intuition. “I can’t trust my intuition anymore.” “I should have trusted my intuition.” “I’m not sure I have any intuition because many times my thoughts don’t turn out to be true.” “I never know whether to trust my intuition or not.” More..

Before Life Closes a Door, Open Several
As I observe the way many of us progress through life, particularly in the latter stages, I notice that life can gradually (quickly in some cases) narrow itself down to a very limited spectrum of physical, mental and/or spiritual activity. Although we usually associate this phenomenon with old age I’ve seen it start to happen at relatively young years. It often seems to be an expectation that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The obvious question is “Why?” Does it have to be that way?” More..

Reflections on Saddam
This morning after sitting meditatively for awhile in a quiet state, I looked at CNN on the web and saw that Saddam had been captured. As I looked at his picture I felt grateful that his reign of terror was over but felt no joy or elation. The surprising and powerful thought that came out of nowhere was, “That’s my brother.” and I was overwhelmed with emotion. I felt a deep connection with him and had the realization that who he had become and what he had done is a form of what I can become and do if fear becomes the driving force in my life. Yes, I am very aware of the unbelievably cruel things he did to many thousands of people and would never think to justify them. However there is a strong message here for me that I want to use to full advantage in my life. More..
